Minister of Green Economy and Environment Mike Mposha has announced that most parts of the country will experience high weather temperatures between the 1st and 12th December 2024.

Mr Mposha said the temperatures will range between 33 and 43 degrees Celsius with reduced rainfall activity in most parts of the Country.

“We are expecting high temperatures to and as a result, the users of weather information must pay attention to daily weather updates. Our partners in the Agriculture sector and other sectors must follow our daily updates. This does not mean we have moved away from the initial rainfall forecast, we gave a general forecast but the daily updates will provide accurate predictions,” Mr Mposha emphasised.

Mr Mposha was speaking at a press briefing, where he announced the outcomes and implications of the COP29 Climate Change conference resolutions, which were held in Azerbaijan in November 2024.

And Mr Mposha highlighted the disappointment expressed by the developing countries at the COP29 financial outcome which could not meet the demand of the New Quantified Collective Goal – NQCG which estimated the financial gap of 1.3 trillion dollars for climate action.

“The Africa Group of Negotiators to which Zambia is party to, the Least Developed Countries and the G77 and China are not happy with the COP29 outcome, walk outs demonstrations during the last days of the negotiations were justified,” Mr Mposha.

Meanwhile, the methodological Department has advised users of the weather information to follow the daily updates in order to plan adequately.

Department Director Edson Nkonde says the country’s high temperatures do not change the earlier rainfall forecast announced in October.

“This is unusual, but as anticipated, these extreme weather events are going to be often because of Climate Change” Mr Nkonde explained.
