President Hakainde Hichilema has called for stronger climate action and increased involvement of young people in environmental sustainability efforts during the official opening of the Kids Climate Action Fair 2026 in Lusaka.
The speech, delivered on his behalf by Green Economy and Environment Minister Mike Mposha at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, stressed the importance of equipping young people with knowledge and tools to respond to climate change.
“Young people must be at the centre of climate solutions if we are to secure a sustainable future,” he said.
Held under the theme “Climate Action Through Technology for a Healthier Tomorrow,” the event brought together learners from various schools across Lusaka and other parts of the country, alongside government officials, private sector representatives, and civil society organisations.
Organized by Butterfly Entertainment, a climate change organization focused on equipping pupils with climate change solutions, the fair provided a platform for learners to showcase innovations while emphasizing the need to move beyond theory and embrace practical climate action.
Meanwhile, Butterfly Entertainment Chief Executive Officer Shika Liswaniso called for stronger partnerships between schools, government, and other stakeholders to advance climate action.
“Collaboration is key to ensuring children have the knowledge and opportunities to act on climate change,” she emphasized.
In a similar call, children’s representative Kozo Liswaniso urged greater cooperation among stakeholders, stating that empowering young people with climate information will enable them take the lead in shaping Zambia’s sustainable future.
The Kids Climate Action Fair is an annual event that serves as a platform for learners, government and stakeholders to engage and advance sustainable development through education, innovation and practical solutions towards climate action.
